Way up north, in the England and Wales Business and Property Courts, Chief Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Briggs has just declared Australian lawyer John Emmott bankrupt.
The declaration of bankruptcy follows over two decades of litigation between Emmott, and Kazakhstan-based law shop, Michael Wilson & Partners, in both Australian and international courts.
At the root of the ongoing dispute is Emmott’s diversion of assets from MWP while he was a director, to a new partnership, Temujin International (named in honour of Genghis Khan).
Keen readers will recall the judgment debt of £4,377,565 awarded against Emmott in favour of MWP in June 2026 (see further: Debts Abroad).
Emmott had until June 19 to pony up, after which MWP would be empowered to seek a bankruptcy order.
Evidently, Emmott failed to pay, as MWP successfully made their bankruptcy application on June 23, 2026.
The declaration of bankruptcy adds another tally to the number of MWP’s bankrupted foes, with MWP’s website boasting success in ordering the bankruptcies of fellow Temujin Partners, Nicholls and Slater in Australia, and Emmott’s partner Sinclair in the Isle of Man, New Zealand, the Bahamas, and the USA.
